Leukeran Information

Leukeran belongs to a group of drugs known as anti-neoplastic agents. In this group, Leukeran belongs to a division of drugs known alkylating agents. It works by impeding the growth of cancer cells. Leukeran’s main component is chlorambucil and is only available if you have a doctor’s prescription.

Leukeran Indications

Leukeran is primarily used in treating types of cancer, which happen when abnormal cells are formed and multiply uncontrollably, massing out and interfering with the essential functions of normal healthy cells. Leukeran is an alkylating agent. It works by binding to the RNA or DNA of certain cancer cells, which helps to slow down their growth and reproduction. Leukeran can treat the following cancers:

• Hodgkin's disease
• Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
• Chronic lymphocytic leukemia
• Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia
• Advanced Ovarian Cancer
• Advanced Breast Cancer

Leukeran may also be used for purposes such as those not indicated here in this guide.

Leukeran Warnings

Leukeran should not be used if the patient has any type of allergy to its components such as:

• Chlorambucil
• Lactose
• Sucrose
• Pregelatinised magnesium stearate
• Quinoline

Leukeran should also not be used if any of the following has occurred:

• The seal around the cap has been broken
• The bottle or packaging has shown signs of tampering
• The expiry date on the bottle has passed

Leukeran may not be well-suited if you have the following conditions:

• Allergy to any of its components
• Kidney problems
• Liver problems

It is not known if Leukeran can cause any defects or harm to an unborn infant. However, do not take Leukeran without your doctor’s permission when you are pregnant.

It is not known whether Leukeran passes into breast milk and to a nursing infant. Do not take Leukeran if you are nursing a child without your doctor’s consent.

Leukeran Intake Guidelines

Leukeran should be used exactly as directed by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your pharmacist, nurse or physician and ask him or her to explain those matters to you.

Oral forms of Leukeran should be taken in with 8 ounces or one full glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break Leukeran tablets for they are intended to be swallowed whole.

Make sure to follow all of your doctor’s advise and instructions when taking Leukeran.

Leukeran Dosage

Dosage of Leukeran should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors such as age, severity of condition and others. Do not take in more or less of Leukeran so as not to alter its effects and to prevent overdose.

Leukeran Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Leukeran include the following:

• Agitation
• Convulsions
• Unsteadiness while walking

If you experience any of these symptoms, you may be experiencing overdose. Seek immediate medical attention or call poison control. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Leukeran Missed Dose

Doses of Leukeran should not be missed. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent doses according to schedule. Do not take a double dose of Leukeran unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

Leukeran Side Effects

Leukeran may have any of the following side effects or allergic reactions:

• Difficulty breathing
• Swelling of the lips, face, or tongue
• Hives
• Fever
• Low blood pressure
• Diarrhea
• Nausea or vomiting
• Tiredness and fatigue
• Mouth ulcers
• Skin rash
• Fever or chills
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Shortness of breath
• Bleeding or bruising more easily than normal
• Liver problems
• Bladder problems or infections
• Numbness or weakness of the arms or legs
• Seizures, tremors and twitching

If you experience any of these side effects, continue using the product but inform your doctor immediately.

Other side effects may also occur when you take Leukeran. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking Leukeran.

Leukeran Drug Reactions

Other drugs may interact with Leukeran. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than Leukeran including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals, and even herbal products.
